The 4th of July is a time to spend celebrating our nation’s birthday with friends, family and loved ones. Unfortunately, it also comes during one of the hottest times of year, and in 2026, the heat wave spreading throughout much of the Southeast is particularly brutal.
Prisma Health emergency medicine physician Steve Shelton, MD, has seen many cases of heat-related injuries and illness, especially around the holiday. In this video, he offered important tips to beat the heat this 4th of July.
