A meningioma is not the kind of brain tumor most people imagine when they think about the popular culture image of tumors within the brain. These tumors grow within the meninges, or the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.
Are meningiomas benign?
“Meningiomas are a benign tumor,” said neurosurgeon David Straus, MD. “This means they are not a brain cancer, but they can cause significant problems in the brain by causing pressure or injury to the underlying brain.”
