Medical Minute: How to prevent colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer, a cancer of the lower GI tract, is the third-most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. While many know that colonoscopies can be utilized to help with the diagnosis of already existing colon cancers, what they don’t know is that colonoscopies can help to prevent the development of colorectal cancer, too.
In this quick Medical Minute, gastroenterologist Andre Eaddy, MD, explained the importance of colon cancer screenings like colonoscopies, which can help to detect benign or precancerous colon polyps, which can be removed before problems develop down the road.
Dr. Eaddy also spoke on what symptoms of colon cancer to watch for and when to call a doctor.
