Town hall: Questions about mental health, answered
While we often treat mental health as somehow separate from physical health, the two are deeply intertwined. In this informative video, Prisma Health brought together medical experts to answer questions about mental health care as part of our ongoing dedication to raising awareness of and reducing the stigma around behavioral health issues, as well as highlight the ways mental illness affects not just the individual but everyone around them, too.
Psychiatry specialists Dr. Frank Clark, Dr. Michael Sierra, Dr. Shilpa Srinivasan and Dr. Stephanie Berg each answered questions about mental health care, including:
- Has the amount of people struggling with mental health risen since the pandemic began in 2020?
- What are some signs of stress in adults?
- Are signs of stress in children different than those in adults?
- What are the different types of stress?
- Do mental health concerns affect your physical health?
- Can you have depression without knowing it?
- What are steps you can take to support your mental health at home?
- Are cell phones bad for mental health?
- How does you know if you should see a doctor about your mental health?
- What is a helicopter parent?
- How does having a helicopter parent harm child development?
- What is “mommy brain”? How can you cope with mood changes after giving birth?
- How can you help your child adjust when you’re going through a divorce?
- How can you tell if you’re in an unhealthy dating relationship?
- And many more.
Mental health has long been a sensitive topic that many aren’t comfortable speaking about openly. However, mental health is as important as and related to physical health, and it’s just as important to treat mental illness as it would be to treat a physical injury.
If you are struggling with depression, anxiety or other mental health concerns, speak with your doctor or schedule an appointment with a specialist.
