Exercises to ease lower back pain
More than two-thirds of Americans experience lower back pain in their lifetime, and it’s one of the top three reasons adults seek care with their primary care physician. Thankfully, in many cases back pain caused by strain, poor posture or muscle tightness can be eased with simple exercises that are easy to do at home.
In this video, Josh Whitney, Prisma Health physical therapist, showcased a series of exercises that stretch and strengthen the muscles that help support the spine and minimize ongoing lower back pain. These exercises can be done on the floor or on the bed for your comfort.
Exercises to ease lower back pain like these can also help you improve your overall posture and ability to stand or walk around for longer periods of time.
Before beginning any exercise routine, whether it’s focused on improving overall health, easing lower back pain, losing weight or to aid rehabilitation and recovery after an injury, it’s essential to speak with your doctor. They may have important advice on how to exercise safely, especially if you have health conditions that could make certain exercises less recommended.
