Improve your sleeping posture for better rest
Do you often wake up with a crick in your neck after sleeping? Your sleeping posture may be causing your muscles to stay tense while you sleep, or adding pressure where it shouldn’t be.
Aileen Cuenca-Williams, certified McKenzie physical therapist with Prisma Health, offered some tips on how to sleep comfortably and reduce those days you wake up with aches and pains. Some of her tips include:
- Utilizing a McKenzie night roll and cervical roll within your pillowcase to better align your spine
- How pillows beneath your knees and arm can reduce the pressure on your neck while sleeping
- How to comfortably sit up without adding tension
- Maintaining your back’s natural curve, rather than trying to force a straight spine
