What is Moyamoya Disease?

Named for its visual appearance, Moyamoya disease (which means “puff of smoke” in Japanese) is a rare, progressive disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain.
Moyamoya disease can cause headaches, seizures, numbness or paralysis of the face and more. Putting patients at an increased risk for stroke, diagnosis and treatment is essential to helping individual afflicted with Moyamoya disease to stay healthy as long as possible.
